Mojo—that special dose of confidence, spunk and drive. It’s that little extra something that breeds success, almost without trying. It’s that knowing deep down inside that you got this. But what happens when you’ve lost it?
Mojo—We all want it, and we may even go through seasons where we’re on top of our game. Life is not only running smoothly, but it’s happening. People don’t just notice you, they want to be you—and let’s face it, you’re pretty happy with yourself.
But what about when the well is so dry you can’t even find the bucket? Your motivation is so far gone you don’t even care to go looking for it, and life is just so-so.
I’ve been there, more times than I care to count. Fortunately for you—and I seem to be saying that a lot lately—I’ve figured out how to get it back!
Identify How You Lost It
There are myriad reasons why people lose their mojo: tragedy, loss, a bad relationship, money problems. In short—life. When you get dog-piled by bad circumstances, it’s easy to put things off to the point you lose your enthusiasm. If you can identify what poked a hole in your mojo in the first place, the easy answer is to reverse course.
But sometimes it’s not that simple. After all, you can’t un-have a tragedy. In those cases, the best way to get your mojo back is to nurture yourself through the loss so you’ll one day be in a position to thrive again. Time doesn’t heal all wounds, but it sure gives you perspective.
Root Out Physical Causes
Poor nutrition, lack of exercise and especially chronic lack of sleep are sure to drain your mojo. While it’s hard to change eating habits or establish a regular exercise routine, doing so will give you a big-time payoff.
Rediscover Your Vision
It’s time to re-engage with the vision that motivated you in the first place. Look at your early works, or consider the thoughts about your passion that you may have journaled. Seek out people who shared and championed what you wanted for your life back when things were going well.
Actively Pursue Life
The more you steep yourself in music, art, literature, spiritual endeavors, volunteering—in short, living a big life—the more you will rediscover your vision or uncover new dreams.
Do
Quit thinking about enthusiasm, motivation and mojo. Stop the naval-gazing and shut down the pity party. It’s time to get out there and do the work.
Sometimes it’s not about mojo, it’s about doing the next right thing even when you don’t feel like it.
The good news is, if you make it a life practice to always do the right thing to the best of your ability, you’ll never have to look back and wonder if you did the right thing. Of course you did the right thing—that’s who you are!
The bottom line is that sometimes you need to fight your way back. How badly do you want it? Take it back by force and start living the dream!
Have you ever lost your mojo? How did you get it back?

Awesome post to kick start us all back into action vs thinking about mojo. I find the best approach to getting your mojo back is to stop being stagnant. Gotta keep moving forward!

Exactly! Stagnancy breeds itself.

You’re exactly right! Just getting outside of our own heads and attending to the needs of others is so important 🙂

I know I feel better about myself when I’m exercising and eating well, it’s just so hard as a new mom of two. BUT I can’t do mama well if I don’t do me well. Thanks for sharing lady!

New mom of TWO? You must be busy! And tired. And needing TLC. Definitely take care of yourself. Your health and well-being matter too!
